Fancy spending a fun and relaxed day creating a wonderful picture and learning the art of free motion embroidery?
Then join me at the fabulous Kington Grange where I’ll guide you through each step…. From creating a layered background using a variety of fabrics, learning the free motion “wobble” to secure everything, and finally inserting a magical lighthouse and some inspirational text!
What’s included:
All materials , including background fabrics and stabilisers, lashings of different fabrics to layer and stitch, a massive choice of machine embroidery threads to experiment with, a choice of unique sky backgrounds printed to fabric, and a couple of little iron-on lighthouses to finish off.
Copious amounts of tea , coffee and biscuits, the occasional cake, and a wonderful lunch.
A relaxing setting at Kington Grange; we will be in the large barn with ample opportunity to walk around the wild water swimming pool and meet the ducks!
A supportive and friendly environment to learn or develop your free motion sewing, plus lots of humour and experimentation thrown in for free!
What to bring with you:
Your sewing machine ( nothing fancy, but you do need to be able to drop the feed dogs, and you will need a suitable foot e.g. darning or free motion embroidery foot)
A basic sewing kit ie. Scissors, spare bobbins and spare needles ( I use size 80), hand sewing needles and pins if you plan to add any embellishments etc
My name is Chris Turner and I create whimsical textile art. I am self taught so do not claim to be an expert in anything, but I have a fabric and thread addiction that is infectious........ I love to play with a variety of materials, then throw in some free motion embroidery with my trusty Bernina sewing machine ! I've run several events at Kington Grange with Susan, and absolutely love the venue! But most of all, I adore meeting up with crafty people who want to revisit their inner child......... my classes are relaxed and I enjoy watching people's expression at the end of the workshop when they realise they have created something really unique, at the same time as having a few giggles. I create whimsical images of the natural world , be that colourful landscapes with sweeping hills and little hares, to seascapes with calm seas and small lighthouses ......... and I will constantly remind you that there are no straight lines in nature so "embrace the free motion wobble"! I also create applique figures to add to these scenes ...... many of them based on my daughter and her little dog, Doris.
My classes are suitable for beginners, as well as people who have done some free motion embroidery already and perhaps want to try to different techniques. So please come along to one of the classes and join in the fun at the same time as learning a new skill.
